Today’s a cup to consider is this: How do you reduce daily overwhelm?
Is there something you can do each day or week that doesn’t need to be reimagined each time? Routines and structures can simply de-stress your day and relentless incrementalism, supports your life. (like doing a load of laundry once a day no matter what…and putting it away….not that I know personally or anything)
Is your life overwhelming? Simple structures and a dose of solitude can make a world of difference even when the world is spinning.
This week I’m on a multi state journey, a book launch team, and my husband has a big experience happening while were both learning to travel together on the same business trip. (that’s a whole different post you’ll laugh out loud about) . There is little predictability to the day’s schedule, we’ve got big situations to deal with while traveling and the stress level could quickly get out of control.
One of my destress routines is to stop and tidy the traveling bags each morning, it takes less than 10 minutes but oh what a difference it makes on a multi day trip! Yesterday the trip had generated so much chaos almost everything was out of its space in our equipment bags. 2 Walmart bags of trash and receipts later, I could feel my “relax” returning before the 3rd appointment. 15 minutes bought me 3 hours of relaxed, less stressed work.
What is working to support your daily ease?
Having a cup for morning water break, (left mine at home but having a ceramic coffee cup not a paper cup added ease, for it felt familiar to home. Bringing a book I am enjoying, Brave Love, by Lisa Leonard added consistency to my day in an unfamiliar circumstance.
Calling time out often for a pause and breath as we face a good many new situations at once all day long. (boy can that help!)
Limiting the schedule after a full day…I’ve learned from long experience with speakers and events . and the raising of four children, it’s best NOT to try to do it all in a day. (and I was reminded of why not when we tried to again yesterday….uh hm…sometimes the lesson repeats until you get it)
What are your stress reducers? What could be?
What comes to mind? How can you reduce stress and add ease by thinking it through? What do you not have to think about to do each day on the best of days? What routines work for you to destress your day on the hard ones?
